Is it not reverse, the conclusions, you get
objective 2
by missing an attack against the thing at the end. Or do you have only 1 shot at that creature to kill it? In that case it is logical. But it is a compound action and that can be repeated, so the first player took the fail and the next one could kill the thing

If you do not win that line with the first action you get
objective 2
, which means that if you finally beat the boss, you won’t get
a reward for saving the prisoners, as they died.
