Got it, Sarah, thanks!

Download a PDF version of the Citadel Leaflet from the Resources section here, and you can print out as many copies as you would like. Then you can do it in pen or pencil, whatever you like! -)

Okay, accepting your interpretation.

A turn sequence is described on p. 10 of the rulebook, the first step of which is to "choose the active player and the action to be taken." At the end of the compound action example on p. 15, it states that after a consequence has been reached on the first row of the card, that a new turn begins. The first step of that turn would include choosing the action to be taken. In the case of a mandatory compound action, that choice is out of the player's hands, but an action has been selected.

Besides, it would seem counter to the intent of the game for a player to have 6-7 cards in their hand from which to choose to possibly affect a result.

Sorry, armchair lawyer here. -)

Sorry to keep pushing this point, but it seems logical to me. "...Except during an action you are involved in..." (bolding mine). The glossary (p. 26) defines a compound action as "An action usually made up of multiple rows and taking several turns to be finished..." (bolding mine). It doesn't refer to each row as a separate action. Also, on p. 10, the rulebook states that "[an] action will always be represented by an icon in a white square..." Each row in a compound action does not have a new white icon, but in every instance I have seen so far, a compound action is represented by a single white icon.

In a non-mandatory compound action, if I choose to stop on a new row and do something else, I will be performing a new action and would therefore have to normalize my hand. At that point, I am between two actions as is referenced above.

If I am performing a mandatory Fight compound action, for example, on each row I am still resolving that Fight action.

Again, just following logic (to me). And I also recognize that by now, I could have already resolved this for myself by applying the golden rule on p. 16 of the rulebook. Thanks!

What is prompting my question is that I'm in a mandatory action - one action icon - which I can't walk away from. I get that if you walk away after a completed step in a non-mandatory compound action, you would have to normalize your hand. It's your understanding, though, that one would have to normalize their hand at the beginning of each row in a mandatory or non-mandatory compound action?

Thanks.

By that same logic, separate steps of a compound action often allow adding some number of result cards to your hand. Since a compound action is a single action, you could end up with several cards above your hand size limit during the action and only need to discard down to your allowed hand size once the compound action is over. Is that correct? Thanks!

That's what I did and so far, even playing Arthen again, things are turning out very different. But I'm continuing to find rules I hadn't understood previously. Nothing as big as this original miss, so forging ahead. Taking my time and re-reading rule sections and checking resources like BGG forums when needed.

In the first scenario of Dadachaem's Awakening and I just noticed that in each character's Move action, you can add a drawn card to your hand. That's pretty huge. Makes me want to start over from the top. Although I like Arthen, if I use a different character the introductory scenario might not feel like a complete repeat.

Thoughts?

That makes sense, thanks!

Also, if you take the Think action on a Hope reborn! card, do you also get to take the 10 life points when the card is blocked as a result of the Think action? Or do you only get one of the benefits of the card at a time?

Thanks.

Yeah, I actually wrote a post shortly after submitting the first post stating that I had figured it out myself. But somehow I didn't post it. -)

Exploration cards attached to a terrain card are considered Permanent Event cards by virtue of the golden arrow pointing to the terrain card, therefore those actions can be taken from the terrain card.

Peace!

Probably another dumb question, but as I read the text on the Hope reborn! cards, it seems that you only regain 10 life points regardless of how many cards you block, rather than 10 points per card. Is that correct? You pretty clearly can perform the Think action on each card prior to blocking them.

All that seem right?

Finally starting to play the game! Rusty after not having played Continent for a couple of years. Probably a dumb question, but to perform the Pathfinder action on an Exploration card, you have to have moved to it, yes?

Thanks!

Hi there! Just about finished with game prep and looking forward to starting to play! With the Collector's Edition at least, the game includes both plastic and cardboard character figures. What does one use the cardboard figures for if you have the plastic pieces? Backup only?

Thanks!

Any thoughts from anyone about leaving the Adventure cards unsleeved?
Posted
I've started sleeving and it looks like I may run out of room in the collector's box if I sleeve everything. Based on my experience with Continent, it may be OK to leave the Adventure cards unsleeved. They rarely get shuffled (and if they do, in small quantities only). A neat gamer, I don't think I will get Cheeto dust or oily fingerprints all over the cards!

Have any of you sleeved all your cards, and do they fit OK in the three card boxes provided in the collector's box?

Thanks for any thoughts and responses!

Received my Kickstarter a few days ago. I have 7th Continent and have won the base game once and have finished a couple of the expansions. I think I have an expansion saved in the game box.

Should I try to finish the rest of the 7th Continent expansions before digging into Citadel? It seems that there isn't any lore carryover from one to the other. Citadel, with its additional mechanics and systems, seems much more intriguing. But if I do start playing Citadel, will I ever want to go back and finish the more vanilla Continent?

Oh, the quandary! Thoughts?

Received mine in California on Thursday 2/22 (collector's edition IIRC). Looking forward to getting into it, but may not have time for another week or so. ermm
