So there are these two exploration card encounters (Area II and VIII), which are very similar, but the one on the left is not discarded, the one on the right is discarded prior reading dialogue 176. Paragraph 176 implies that the
creature is defeated
, so correctly both cards should be discarded according to the text. Please confirm if this an error or not.

Does the given number not tell you to discard it? If so, the effect is the same either way. (We had this twice last week but i've forgotten whether the dialog tells us to discard it. We interpreted it that way, in any case.)

The paragraph 176 does not instruct to discard it.

Yeah, the text heavily implies that you have defeated the enemy. Both cards also state otherwise: so technically the discard this part isn’t needed on the right card (as temporary event) but on the left it is needed (as it’s a permanent event).
As it is now, the left card can’t be removed once your knowledge is 15+
